Without words

Great morning yesterday giving a guest lecture on Life Cycle Analysis and Circular inspired business model innovation, to a group of mechanical and civil engineers, architects, built environment and even ancient history.
.
One of the things I’ve been sharing for a while now are the warming stripes from @climatehawkins , to help illustrate the role of data visualisation but also more importantly the facts around climate change, and also the role our economy based around selling lots of stuff has resulted in. Time to rethink it?
.
This time I got to share it in the place with this on the side of the building ( so just about all the students recognised it this time......). The sun was not shining as much though ( wet cycling day again)
.
Apparently 2019 is another record breaking year for global temperatures, and I know that humans seem to like to break records, but really this is one that we should not be excited about! .

I’m, not there, but actually on a packed train to London after a night of little sleep 😴
.
Sometimes when my mind gets a bit too active ALL day, i just have to pack it up and take it somewhere calm and restorative. 🌊
.
Sometimes its about going on a little holiday, even if it’s just for the length of a train journey. Time to close my eyes 💙

🌎 🧊
Although specifically there to replace the party leaders that didn’t turn up ( cough cough, Boris & Farage) ......They struck me as a poignant reminder of our wider cumbersome system, economies, constant debates and promises without action, the lifestyles that many in society have or are stuck in, in this broken outdated system and infrastructure.
A model based around making people feel bad, think they need more stuff, consuming more and measuring this all and success by an outdated growth metric that was never meant to do this in the first place...
.
Oh and I believe today is BF, just another perpetuating cog in humanities work of consuming finite resources and destroying our ecological systems at the same time.
.
Right - I’m off to find something positive to do. Give back, rather than take, regenerate 🌿
Humanity, we’re better than this

.
This is an issue close to my heart coming from an electronics products background and working with lots of startups in the sector, it’s one that we need to face up to, question what the Uk startup, scale up and tech sector wants to be known for. Cheap, fast and throwaway, with out consideration of the products life, impact, supply chain practices and rare and precious metals? Or pioneering in a new, thoughtful, considered and circular electronics sector and business models that prolong rather than reduce product life and ownership.
.
It’s definitely complex, with often hundreds of materials or metals and minerals combined together- think of just one PCB (printed circuit board).
.
I’m looking forward to hearing innovations in this area to tackle ewaste, the fastest growing waste stream in the world.

#selfcaresunday #sundayinspiration #slowliving #humannature #startulnature #adrenalinsufficiency #endometriosis #timeforyou #ecodesigner When you wonder where the dogs gone from warming your feet under the desk and find him basking in the sun next door....
.
To be fair, smart wee fella. We insulated the loft a load more the other week ( not an instagram friendly activity) and with the carpet, backing onto next door and south facing, it really warms up with no heating on at all.
.
The heating of our homes is one of the biggest changes the UKs housing stock is going to have to lower our carbon footprint, with phasing out of gas boilers and then retrofitting others. Air source heat pump research time!
.
Anyway, it may be Monday but enjoy the sun, some natural heating and don’t forget to get some vitamin D in you.
