Coaching Sustainable Design, Entrepreneurship and Business

Climate KIC The Journey Summer School

Aim: The Journey is a Climate-KIC summer school programme. Climate KIC is the EU’s largest public private partnership addressing climate change through innovation to build a zero carbon economy across four priority themes: urban areas, land use, production systems, climate metrics and finance. Education is at the heart of these themes to inspire and empower the next generation of climate leaders.

They run programmes for students, start-ups and innovators across Europe via centres in major cities, convening a community of the best people and organisations.

Climate-KIC is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

I’ve been a coach for 3 years running for their 5 week journey programme:

  • 2016: Amsterdam, Trondheim and Warwick
  • 2017: Lisbon, Valencia and Wraclaw
  • 2018: Lisbon, Valencia and Wraclaw

During the 5 week journey’s, I supported and coached (alongside other fantastic international Co-coach’s), groups of up to 40 summer school students through design thinking, ideation techniques and tools, team and business development, market research, planning and pitching, team working and self development. All this was with healthy doses of ecodesign, circular economy, LCA and system thinking.

Outcome:  It’s an incredibly inspiring and energising action learning experience for all, alongside this generating 100’s of great startup business ideas that look to combat and improve environmental and social problems and issues related to climate change.

Since each journey I have also supported students in job applications, connected to internships and been a reference to support them in their next steps.

“You have been an amazing coach, exceeding all expectations. Thank you for your commitment and advice”

“Thanks for the great coaching, inspiring stories, great smile and very positive energy!”

Role: Facilitating learning of business skills by supporting a culturally and academical subject diverse group of students, in translating knowledge into activities, and coaching them to create business plans and pitches of their own.
